INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATION TO BOLSTER ACCESS TO NEW MEDICINES

Representatives from a number of European countries met in October to discuss the challenges of new medicines that often have limited evidence of effectiveness, and to identify best practices and solutions to ensure access to these medicines.

Negotiating organisations in the pharmaceuticals sector in all countries experience the same challenges.  New medicines are priced high, even though they only have low evidence of effectiveness. Medicines costs are rising. The industry has a strong desire to be able to use real world data and to make alternative agreements.

Therefore, it makes sense for us at Amgros to exchange knowledge and experience with organisations from other countries and talk about possible best solutions to common challenges. And to take a closer look at ways to strengthen collaboration.

At the end of October, representatives from Amgros therefore traveled to Lisbon to meet with a number of European countries in the so-called Payer Group.

- In today's global medicines market, with its strong and multinational suppliers, we need an international outlook if we are to continue to succeed in our work to ensure that Danish patients have access to medicines and more cost-effective health solutions. The solutions to the challenges we face as retailers can be difficult to find for individual countries. That's why we're so pleased that we can discuss good solutions in this collaboration, says Flemming Sonne, CEO of Amgros.

After the meeting, the countries issued a joint statement, which you can read here
